New Glass Means a New Look

We’ve talked about the kinds of glass we use before, but recently we had a really great opportunity to use them to make a difference for a client. Let me tell you about it:

A client asked us to come by his home and take a look at his art and give him our recommendations. What we noticed right off was that he had some nice looking pieces, but they were a little hard to see. As you can see from the pictures, the glass picks up a lot of reflections. These pieces appear to have been originally framed with regular, standard glass. Now, regular glass does a good job of protecting art from physical damage like dust or being bumped into by rowdy teenagers, but that’s about it. It also showcases reflections from strong light sources like open windows. And, perhaps most importantly, standard glass does  poor job of protecting art and photos from UV lights. Over time, UV light will leave the colors on your pieces washed out and can actually cause physical damage.

So our main recommendation was to just start by keeping his existing frames and art, but replacing the glass with a museum glass. Museum glass combines multiple layers of materials that still provide physical protection, but add a layer that filters out the UV rays to protect the piece from fading. But the real standout feature of using museum glass is the amazing anti-reflection layer. This greatly reduces the appearance of reflections from strong light sources while actually enhancing the light transmission through the glass, making whatever is beneath the glass actually appear brighter and more colorful.

And since we custom cut the glass in the store, we can make sure that the new museum glass fits just as tight as the previous glass did.
