What in the world is that? Mat Cutter Edition

So obviously that main component of creating a custom framing is the frame, but only slightly less critical is the matting that can add depth, color, interest, artistry and even emotion. In case you’re new to the framing world, the photo mat is a foam-core board that usually covered in paper or some other texture. We cut them to fit inside the frame and surrounding the subject. Sometimes we even stack them for added drama. Now back in the olden days we actually used a razor and rulers and a giant table to hand-cut each mat for each framing job. But now we have a better way!

This is our computerized mat cutting machine. It’s a truly revolutionary piece of equipment for our shop! With this thing we can create any size or shape design on the computer and have it cut perfectly every time. Now, this obviously makes all the vanilla, rectangular mats look great, but it also lets us cut out some really complex shapes. Check out these!
